The CardioChek Plus analyzer used for the Reperio Health screening is the same device used in many clinical laboratories, as it maintains an accuracy similar to that of a veinous blood draw analysis.
However, there can be external variables that the analyzer can be sensitive to during your screening. To better understand what these factors are, we have compiled some useful information to help you potentially avoid anything that may negatively affect your results.
Use of Lotion or Hand Cream
These products should be avoided before your screening as they may contain glycerol, a chemical that could impact the accuracy of the sample provided.
Reperio strongly recommends thoroughly washing and rinsing your hands with antibacterial soap and ensuring they are fully dry before beginning your screening.
Medications
Some medications can affect the overall results of your blood panel, including the following:
-
- Acetaminophen (TYLENOL)
- Dopamine agonists (e.g., pramipexole)
- Methyldopa (antihypertensives)
Other examples of medications that could potentially affect your blood panel are antidepressants, anxiety medications, and blood pressure medications.
Extreme Dosages of Ascorbic Acid (i.e., Vitamin C)
Extreme dosages of ascorbic acid can decrease the value of all lipids.
Severe Dehydration and Excessive Water Loss
Severely low levels of hydration may produce falsely low values.
It is recommended that you drink a full 8-24 ounces of water an hour prior to attempting your screening.
Excessive Squeezing/Pressure of the Finger
Excessive external pressure can impact the levels of blood produced from your body's capillary system, which the sensor is calibrated to analyze, potentially impacting the values received.
You should only use mild levels of pressure and manipulation while massaging the pricked finger to encourage a sufficient sample for collection.
Cold Environmental Temperatures
The Cardiochek Plus analyzer and Test Strips have an operating temperature range of 68-86°F (20-30°C).
Allow the analyzer and strips to come to room temperature before beginning your blood panel.
